The Youth Services team at ImagineIF Libraries plans and implements early literacy programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in Kalispell, Bigfork, and Columbia Falls. Our goal in every Storytime is to connect with young children and their caregivers through books, songs, and interactive activities that foster early literacy and social emotional skills.

You put your right mitten in

And you turn yourself around,

That’s what its all about!
(repeat: left mitten, right boot, left boot, snowself)
Activities:
- Snowflakes in the Wind Tunnel
- The wind tunnel is one of our most popular play stations all year round, and we have a special set of fabric snowflakes to put in during wintertime. We can release handfuls in the tunnel to create our own little snowstorms, or play a game and try to catch one flake at a time!
- Paint stick snowpeople art
- We covered our storytime tables with butcher paper and drew the outlines for a few snowpeople. The kids decorated the snowpeople, made a few of their own, and created a beautiful wintry scene using paint sticks and jumbo crayons!
- Snow as a sensory material
- Throughout this winter, we’ve been bringing tubs of fresh snow into the library for a variety of sensory tubs and process art projects! We’ve hosted a “snow kitchen” with pots, pans, and utensils, played with toy trucks in the snow, and painted snow with brushes and washable paint.
- Snow shoveling gross motor game
- This winter, we have been practicing how to shovel snow with a gross motor game using tiny snow shovels and white loofas. We also used our white loofas as “snowballs” on our parachute during storytime!
