Mission Statement
Flathead County Library provides educational and recreational materials, programs, and resources to promote literacy, inspire lifelong learning, and enrich the community.
Vision
SPACES
Flathead County Library provides welcoming physical spaces for
- Quiet reading, studying, and learning
- Activities aimed at children, teens and adults that foster lasting and meaningful social connections
RESOURCES
Flathead County Library provides physical and online resources that
- foster literacy and a love of reading
- encourage lifelong learning
- support the exploration of personal interests and hobbies
OPPORTUNITIES
Flathead County Library provides services and programs that create opportunities for the community to connect with each other through in-person programming, partnerships, and by offering technological resources to connect virtually.
STRATEGIC FOCUS FOR 2025-2027
At its yearly retreat in October of 2024, the library board decided to focus on improving access and services for adults over 65 and teens over the next two years. This focus expresses itself in the following strategies:
SPACES
Focus on Adults over 65:
- Increase comfortable seating for older adults that is in close proximity to the large print collection.
- Create 4-6 videos featuring older adults using the library; distribute on Social Media.
- Bring collections and activities to older adults at assisted living facilities and places where seniors gather.
Focus on Teens:
- Reconfigure public computers so they aren’t adjacent to and don’t face the teen area. (Completed April 2025)
RESOURCES
Focus on Adults over 65:
- Review and improve the Large Print collection.
- Research and purchase software and tools for vision and hearing-impaired library users.
Focus on Teens:
- Purchase additional classics materials to align with the BISAC and house them in the teen fiction area.
- Improve the financial literacy collection within the teen materials.
- Research and partner with FVCC to assist with offering financial literacy classes for teens.
OPPORTUNITIES
Focus on Adults over 65:
- Host a special event for adults over 65 with informational tour of public library spaces.
Focus on Teens:
- Create a annual Teen reading challenge with prizes that are donated by local businesses.
Combo Event:
- Host a multi-generational event where adults over 65, teens and tweens interact with one another.
