The Youth Services team at Flathead County Library plans and implements early literacy programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in Kalispell, Bigfork, and Columbia Falls. Our goal in every Storytime is to connect with young children and their caregivers through books, songs, and interactive activities that foster early literacy and social emotional skills.

- Snowflake, Snowflake (To the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)
- Color Sorting with Mittens and Pom-Poms
- This sorting activity challenged kids to separate pom-poms based on their color and place them upon the matching mitten. In addition to building critical thinking skills, kids also activated their fine motor muscles by using tongs to move the pom-poms around the light table.
- Decorating Paper Mittens & Hats
- This art station was the perfect spot to practice fine motor skills and have some fun! Kids used stamps, jumbo crayons, markers, and stickers to create their perfect pair of winter mittens or a hat.
- Sensory Sorting Tub
- As we read our stories today, we discussed all of the types of clothes we need to wear during winter to help us stay warm. Kids were eager to contribute ideas like hats, mittens, and snowpants, and they got a good laugh out of the silly cow in our story who kept wearing the wrong clothes for the season! Hiding inside this sensory tub were tiny laminated clothing items like sandals or boots for the kids to sort into the “winter” side or the “summer” side of the sensory tub.
- Arctic Animals in the Castle
- Penguins, polar bears, and arctic foxes oh my! Today a group of arctic animals took over our wooden castle in the play area! Kids played pretend and built magical wintry worlds all morning long at this station.
Snowflake, snowflake turn around
Snowflake, snowflake touch the ground
Snowflake, snowflake land on my nose
Snowflake, snowflake freeze my toes
Snowflake, snowflake in the air
Snowflake, snowflake tickle you everywhere!
