The Youth Services team at ImagineIF Libraries plans and implements early literacy programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in Kalispell, Bigfork, and Columbia Falls. Our goal in every Storytime is to connect with young children and their caregivers through books, songs, and interactive activities that foster early literacy and social emotional skills.

It’s never too early for kids to practice good dental habits, and this month during storytime, we got a little help from our librarians and local dentists! We’d like to give a HUGE thank you to Buffington Dental in Columbia Falls and Glacier Grins in Kalispell for donating their time and toothbrushes to our storytime families 🙂

Activities:

LEGO Duplo Brushing/Flossing

For this activity, we used playdough and LEGO Duplos to help simulate brushing and flossing with kids of all ages. We started by smushing play dough into the cracks of a LEGO Duplo, which shows how food gets stuck in our teeth when we eat. In order to clean our LEGO teeth, we then used a toothbrush or some string to dig down deep and simulate the act of brushing or flossing!

Mini Marshmallow Mouths

In our Wednesday Workshop, each child made a model of their own mouth, complete with 32 mini-marshmallow teeth! We learned about the different types of teeth that we have, and what their jobs are! Some kids added extras to their mouth like braces or cavities.

Brushing with a Puppet

Our special guest from Glacier Grins brought along a monkey puppet that helps kids practice brushing teeth in a fun and silly way!
