Librarian Book Recs: July 2026

July 11, 2026, By in Staff Reads.

I’m Deidre—an avid book lover, Adult Programming Librarian for Flathead County Library, and Branch Manager of the Bigfork Library. I love when other people make monthly book plan lists, so I’d thought I’d share mine too!

Here are some books published in July that I’m excited about!

  • Wisdom Corner by David Heska Wanbli Weiden – A mystery thriller set on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The story has to do with vigilantes, gangs, tribal government and ties to the history of reservations, boarding schools, and even football. This is a sequel to the book Winter Counts, though it can be read as a standalone too.
  • Country People by Daniel Mason – This is my bet for the “it” book of July. A family moves to Vermont and starts to make friends with the local characters. It sounds like the story touches on family, folklore, faith, and forests.
  • Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt by Ben Reeves – The main character, Travis, is Death, but wears modern clothes and lives in a small town. He keeps to himself because of his work, giving comfort as he brings people out of the world of the living. But then he meets a midwife and her eight year old daughter and learns more about what it is to be alive.
  • The Parisian Heist by Jo Piazza – This is my summer beach read pick. I love a heist! Especially an art heist, and even more so if it’s set in Paris. There are two timelines in this story, one in modern Europe and another in the 1800s following Van Gogh’s widow.
  • The Talking Bone by Rene Denfeld – I’m a huge Rene Denfeld fan and recommend her previous thrillers The Child Finder, The Butterfly Girl and Sleeping Giants too! The protagonist in this book works to free innocent men from death row and find missing women. Her newest case brings up deep secrets and seems connected to her own story.
  • Voyagers by Meg Charlton – In truth, I’ve already read this one! Two six-year-olds go missing in the desert and the possibility that they were abducted by aliens makes them famous. Years later, current events brings them back together. It sounds like science fiction, but it’s really more of a literary novel about friendship, family, memory, and belief.

You might be interested in these too:

  • Meet Me in Paris by Kristin Harmel – historical fiction and romantic. One life-changing week in Paris!
  • The Death Row Club by V.A. Vazquez – a weekend getaway for adult children of serial killers, but then someone winds up murdered. Featuring twists!
  • Man Overboard! By Kathleen Rooney – a former college swimmer falls off a cruise ship and thinks about his life as he treads water waiting to be rescued. They claim it’s funny, will it be?
